Just before two o’clock that afternoon, Lockett hurried from the direction of Holborn, up Kingsway, to meet his niece outside of the London Opera House. The building, only two years old, was an incredible feat of architecture in the French Renaissance style. It took up an entire city block with its massive stone and meringue masonry. Inside, the lavish theater housed over 2,500 people on three levels of balconies. Lockett continued toward Portugal Street, arriving just in time to join his niece to see the highly successful revue Come Over Here. Three hours later, around five, Lockett and his niece had tea before taking a taxi to meet her parents at the Waterloo train station. The whole group boarded the train and returned to Southampton for the weekend. Lockett never explained where he had been during those few hours apart and no one asked.
